Just Don't by Mintaka-TK Just Don't by Mintaka-TK
Throughout my life, I came to realise that humans are a naturally-judgmental species. (Mostly through my family. :|)

I learnt by myself not to judge people at first glance, no matter the temptation. You don't know anything about that person, so you shouldn't assume anything about them in consequence. :P

I hate it when people say ignore your gut feeling because you shouldn't make assumptions about people. It isn't the same thing is what I am trying to say. Assuming things is wrong but a gut feel occurs to try and protect you, although it is hard to tell what the feeling is trying to tell you not to do or who it maybe coming from. (Sorry if this is the wrong place or doesn't make sense.)

I also see this type of behavior online as well. Both seem worse in both types of worlds..."worlds". Cyber and reality...it's sad to see people judge on either place, yet annoying.

Agreed! I know some people that judge others before they even get to know that person, true I've done that stuff before but I felt terrible about it when I realized that person wasn't really as bad as I thought they were. I wish people would stop judging others at first glance, they could be really nice for all they know right?

YES! YES! YES!
I cannot say how much I agree with this!!
My parents, my friends, they always judge people. Judge, judge judge. People whom they don't even know, but have only heard or seen ONE thing of! I thought I was crazy or insane, because somehow, I CANNOT judge people. I just can not. Now I'm starting to realize that that's actually a great character trait, but it's pretty hard in a judgemental world sometimes. :(

I remember this one girl people hated because she was angry and blunt all the time, pointing out and trying to fix problems with society. People assumed she thought she was better than everyone, but she explained to me she never said "I'm better". She says she's just merely seeing people eye to eye because she thinks of herself as the worst person she's known.

"You don't have to be Mother Theresa to know if someone's being a jackass."

That was years ago, and I haven't seen her since. She taught me a lot.

Assuming is judging with no proof or just less proof. :/ People will assume when looking at someone the first time. That is just natural. We can try doing it less but it will always be there. It is in our natural instincts to categorize on appearance because it helps us survive. It's a self-preservation thing.
Why are you telling people to never ever judge/assume when you distinctly say it's natural to do so? You debunked your own point.

Judging on appearance can actually be a good skill. It is commonly used in job interviews and some people just plain seem suspicious and are best left avoided for that very reason. A great example for the point about interviews is that someone well-dressed gives off a better impression. It looks like they care about how they look and appear to others especially in a professional manner. Whereas a messy or slovenly person looks unprofessional and like they do not give a rat's ass for the job they are applying for.

Maybe you should reword your stamp entirely because your point seems a tad hypocritical.

Does that make sense?

Because some people often jump to the wrong conclusions about people based on how they look or act.

True.

I was trying to say that people shouldn't assume anything about others based on what they look or act like. Of course, an assumption may be true, but I think it's wrong to immediately assume anything about someone at first glance.

Then instead of saying "Don't ever assume anything about anyone" you should have said "You shouldn't assume." or "Assuming is wrong." or even better "I think you shouldn't judge a book by its cover." Your stamp is making demanding and controlling statement. With your choice of words you are telling others what to do and in a seemingly angry manner. It won't change anyone's mind since it has little basis on fact. This is clearly more your opinion than something that was thoroughly researched. It helps when you have facts on your side when you try and make a point.

Totally agree. One has to reach a certain mature stage of mind to fully learn how to not judge a person by first or even second sight so conclusively. Sadly, like someone has mentioned before, some people don't ever get to that point.

For all we know, Barack Obama could be an alien. It would explain how bad he is at human politics. :P
