In a lot of cases I've encountered, I've seen authors who honestly think they are good writers, despite the fact that they seem to lack the knowledge of basic English. (Grammar, punctuation, spelling etc.) They THINK they genuinely know how to write. Sometimes, even fucking paragraphs are too hard for them.
To be honest, I always knew the basic rules of English (because I actually paid attention in English lessons. ) I was still corrected by other people for certain errors I didn't spot (like spelling mistakes I completely missed), so I'm guilty for minor messups. But it looks like the fail authors actually fell asleep during those English lessons about the basics. Hence, the crappy Twilight and Naruto fanfics.
Bottom line: Learn basic spelling and grammar before writing a fanfic. This can also go for writing in general, actually...
don't read my old fan fiction, it is terrible.
I admit I've started to become a bit cruel with it, and apologise after *sigh*
sorry for the rant
OMG! It takes me so long to write a fan fic because grammar and spelling are ALWAYS my main concerns. I usually have to re-read it a couple of times until I'm sure there are no errors. That's why there aren't many fan fics in my Gallery.
I know a lot of kids who write normally off-internet, without any chatspeak or anything, but as soon as the go on the computer they have so many grammar mistakes, typos, and abbreviations that it's hard to read them. And they post this stuff on facebook, where their future jobs and colleges can see them.
This author claims that he/she has to learn 5 different launguages. I pity this guy, but at least know the basic level of English, man! That is no excuse!
they make my eyes bleed.
I'll run a chapter of one of my stories through Word's spelling and grammar checker several times before I submit it anywhere.
